Home Sick

When you leave home, even on a vacation there is a pull to come back. In a vacation it may show up as comparing a meal to one in your favorite spot, or saying “this looks like…” from back home. Either way it’s you wanting to be back home.

When you relocate homesick hits different. There are moments where you — me, are homesick to a depth that it’s almost a depression. There really is no place like home, but the irony is if you stay away from home too long what’s not home starts becoming it.

Being homesick sucks!

It’s not something immigrants or expats share in detail.

I am not like them. I will share, but I will not complain.

I miss home.

I miss the opportunities for employment, the foods, the ability to drive or plan a short flight to see family. I miss the driving culture, the people who sound like me when they talk, and so much more.

The dumbest thing I miss from home is how my spellcheck doesn’t correct me for the letters I use in the words I spell.

I miss home, but I know when I am back home I will also miss here.
